UNB Varsity Reds captured the 2016 University Cup in Halifax Sunday night. Moments after the Varsity Reds won the Cup, Captain Cameron Critchlow led 19 year old Jesse MacFarlane onto the ice to celebrate with the team. MacFarlane was involved in a near fatal car accident 2 summers ago and suffered a terrible head injury. He has made a remarkable recovery since coming out of a coma. He continues to rehab in Fredericton’s Stancassidy Rehab Centre and many believe he is close to speaking for the first time since the accident. He did not miss a UNB playoff game this year and the team has rallied around the former hockey player. It was an emotional moments for the player and the Prince Edward Island native. He is greeted and hugged by the players including Gardner MacDougall’s son, Taylor.
