Pens prospect Daniel Sprong returns to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League for his final season with the Charlottetown Islanders. The 19 year old 2015 2nd round pick (46th overall) suffered a shoulder injury with the Black Aces during the Penguins 2016 playoff run and has been out since then after off season surgery. The Amsterdam, Netherlands native has been an offensive force in the Q and even as a 16 year old rookie. Sprong now returns to a offensively explosive team preparing for a long playoff stretch in the spring and he is a big piece to the Islanders puzzle. Sprong is expected to play alongside Filip Chlapik once he steps into the lineup which is expected to happen in early January. He is following protocol but anxious to begin play. John Moore caught up with Sprong and Islanders coach and GM Jim Hulton on Wednesday, December 28th prior to the Mooseheads game with the Islanders in Charlottetown.
