Rouyn-Noranda Huskies and Halifax Mooseheads open up a best of 7 QMJHL playoff series tonight at the Iamgold Arena. The teams are close to 800 miles apart but there is a deep connection betweem Nova Scotia and Noranada. The founder of Rouyn is Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Inductee Edmond Horne who gew up in Enfield, Nova Scotia. Horne was prospector and very successful businessman who provided employment for 32,000 in the region. Rouyn-Noranda is well known for its gold and copper mines but its also reknown for producing many great hockey players including Maple Leafs legend Dave Keon who the rink was named after.
